The annually second meeting of the Council for Trade-related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights of World Trade Organization was held from 6–7 June 2019，in Geneva, Switzerland. It was attended by approximately 200 participants representing members and observers of WTO. The State Council assigned a governmental delegation to present the meetings, which consisting of representatives of Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and National Intellectual Property Administration. Dr. Fuwei Zhao took part in the Chinese governmental delegation as representative of NIES.
This meeting mainly reviewed items, as follows: relationship of TRIPS and CBD, the Secretariat of CBD as observer of TRIPS, non-violation and situational complaints, etc.. Dr. Zhao participated in the discussion on the above issues, and briefed on the progress of China’s implementation of the CBD and its Nagoya Protocol, as well as related national legislative, administrative and policy measures on access to and benefit sharing of genetic resources, for representatives from the Ministries and the Chinese Permanent Mission to the WTO. This mission further enhanced the coordination of supporting technologies in the fields of genetic resources protection, intellectual property and trade, and further enhanced the visibility and influence of NIES on genetic resources.
