The twenty-second meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 22) and the second meeting of Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI 2) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) were held from July 2 to 13 in Montreal, Canada. The representatives of State Forestry and Grassland Administration, Foreign Economic Cooperation Office, Ministry of Environmental Protection of China, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES), Nanjing Institute of Environmental Sciences of the Ministry of Environmental Protection (NIES) presented this meeting upon the leading of Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China. Three researchers of the NIES, Liu Yan, Zhao Fuwei, and Yu Dandan were selected as eligible members of the delegation of the Chinese government, participating in the meetings.
The SBSTTA 22 mainly reviewed some items as follows: the progress towards selected aichi biodiversity targets and options to accelerate progress, protected areas, marine and coastal biodiversity, climate change, invasive alien species, digital sequence information on genetic resources, risk assessment and risk management of living modified organisms, synthetic biology. Finally, the meeting produced seven draft resolutions, which will be submitted to the fourteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties.
The SBI 2 mainly reviewed some items as follows: the progress in the implementation of the Convention and the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011‑2020, the effectiveness of the Nagoya Protocol, mainstreaming of biodiversity, global multilateral benefit-sharing mechanism, specialized international access and benefit-sharing instruments, resource mobilization, capacity-building, national reporting, and assessment and review. Finally, the meeting produced twenty draft resolutions, which will be submitted to the fourteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties.
