The meeting of the Global Dialogue on Digital Sequence Information on Genetic Resources was held from 6-8 November 2019, in Pretoria, South Africa. 55 representatives of policy-makers, scientists, enterprises of countries and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations attended the meeting. Dr. Fuwei Zhao of Nature Reserve and Biodiversity Research Center took part in the meeting, being invited by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and nominated by the National Focal Point for the Nagoya Protocol of China.
The Fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CBD will be held at Kunming in 2020, and it will develop post-2020 framework for global biodiversity. The digital sequence information on genetic resources is a hotspot in the process of development of the post-2020 framework, which is deeply concerned by all stakeholders. The dialogue mainly discussed the scope of DSI, status of use and storage, international progress, possible domestic measures and potential model for benefit-sharing. The dialogue will make its recommendations for development process of post-2020 global biodiversity framework as references.
