On September 27th, 2021, the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province. The forum was hosted by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), and the China NGO Network for International Exchanges. The minister of the MEE, Huang Runqiu,  delivered a video speech. More than 400 representatives from governments, NGOs, enterprises, communities and the general public from more than 30 countries participated in the NGO Forum both online and offline. The forum provided five thematic platforms for representatives to share their cutting-edge views, cases and actions on the topics of nature-based climate change solutions, NGO assistance to biodiversity mainstreaming, and independent contributions from non-state actors. Nanjing Institute of Environmental Sciences (NIES) attended this forum.

In order to present successful models and cases of global biodiversity conservation, 100+ cases of global biodiversity were publicized in this forum. The "Ecological Conservation Redline (ECR) -Institutional Breakthroughs of Biodiversity Conservation in China" by NIES was successfully listed as one of the "100+ Biodiversity Positive Practices and Actions Around the World". The representative of NIES introduced the main contents and implementation results of the ECR completed by the technical team with Gao Jixi as the core researcher, which received enthusiastic attention from the participants. Professor Gao’s research was published in Nature.

As one of the eight parallel forums of the COP 15, this forum called on NGOs around the world to make a solemn commitment to biodiversity conservation over the next decades. The forum also warmed up the COP 15, which will be held on October 11th. As an important institutional breakthroughs in biodiversity conservation in China, the ECR will make further contributions to the global biodiversity conservation action after 2020.
